The Optical Sciences Contact Lens Certificate Program is produced by the Northern Alberta Institute of Technology (NAIT) and is administered by the Opticians Association of Canada (OAC) to students outside of the province of Alberta. This program is accredited by Accreditation Canada and is offered in English and French.
The Contact lens program is a two-semester, advanced practice program consisting of online theory courses complemented by a clinical practicum. The program will give you the knowledge and skills to both dispense and fit clients with contact lenses. This program is only available to those already working in the optical industry. The ability to dispense contact lenses is a specialized skill, one that employers recognize as a great asset.

*The application period for the Winter 2024 intake has closed. It will reopen on May 15 for the Fall 2024 intake.
Once you have read the course information and application process and have gathered all required documents necessary for application, click on the applicable button below which will direct you through the Steps to Apply outlined in the Application Process.
APPLICATION FEE: there is a non-refundable application fee of $50 + GST (subject to change). This fee applies to first time Contact Lens applicants only and is due at time of application.
IMPORTANT: Please print and have the Application Process document easily accessible to refer to while you complete the online application process.

Continuing Education
The Opticians Association of Canada (OAC) has an extensive online continuing education library available to its members for use towards their professional learning requirements. The online library consists of electronic module articles as well as video modules. New content is consistently being added to the online library for the benefit of our members.
OAC members receive unlimited online modules per year as a benefit of membership.
